The Vices

Kahwa Coffee

The new year always brings the “New You” hype and I’ve gone through my rolodex of abstaining from either sugary foods, alcohol, special brownies or fast food. Just in case you were wondering, I’m on Day 7 of ‘No Alcohol’ and let’s just say you don’t realize how serious your love affair is until you lose a loved one ;o) I couldn’t quite add coffee to that list. I don’t think I ever will.  Plus, Nolan needs all the help he can get in the mornings when even a shove to the floor can’t wake me up. Coffee to me is the equivalent of  eight slams on the snooze button. Add some bacon to that cup of Joe and you might not need an alarm at all. But, I digress.

Let’s talk lust; tall, dark and handsome. Let’s talk coffee.

Every visit to downtown Tampa warrants a visit to Kahwa Coffee. There were many coffee runs before work during my Anise days. I won’t say how many of those times were due to a night out in Ybor or taking advantage of half-off wine bottles at Fly Bar on Mondays.  Sometimes, they took place between doubles or slow times during a rainy shift. I always went to the nearest Kahwa located in the Element Building but they have another location in downtown Tampa blocks away at the Rivergate Tower.

The very first Kahwa Coffee opened in downtown St. Petersburg in 2006. Since then, they have opened up eight more locations. Their coffee is roasted in Tampa Bay at their production site where visitors are allowed to tour if they call in to schedule. Their selection of high quality Arabica beans are roasted and packaged on demand. They offer a drip-coffee blend, espresso blend,  light blend, decaf blend and special roasts.

I love promoting local busineses, especially businesses that love supporting their community and local nonprofit organizations. Kahwa has donated their time and coffee to many Tampa Bay area events. And they’ve certainly donated some extra love in those espresso shots I desperately added to my cafe lattes those rough Sunday mornings.

-“You know there’s already 2 shots in there, right?”

-“Never enough shots. Oh, you meant coffee.” ;o)
